Ruby knew where to go.
The river, any source of streaming water. In the Jungle, concealment was offered, but not just to you- to everyone. You could be hidden, and so could they- and then they could kill you. Near the river, there was enough trees and enough open space to see while being hidden. And a source of water was necessary, though she would be cautious before drinking it. The caves (she had seen one from the Cornicopia very briefly) would not be ideal- you did not want to end up trapped too deep in there, and be unable to run out. One, it could collapse on you. Two, there was no guarantee as to how far they went, or what was inside them. Three, caves always had dead-ends.
Her outfit had been kept as clean as it could be, free of blood stains and the like. There was mud on her boots, however, but the audience wouldn't be able to see that. She would stay as collected and as pretty as possible in the arena- even while killing. The loose canon tribute would recieve no bets, and no sponsors- you couldn't predict safely what their actions would be. The more collected the tribute, the easier it was to see their path, and the more sponsors that they would ultimately receive. And, she knew Shimmer had a large part in helping her while she was in the arena, and the power that her mentor held was a very good thing.
Stroking some soft hair behind her ear, she hopped on a tree, clawing her way up to a top branch. The bag she had snagged at the Cornucopia was a good one, being that she had plucked it from the center of the Cornucopia while she was on top of it. Inside, she found a sleeping bag, two more knives, a jug with water in it (though, it had been a bit of a burden to carry as water was not the lightest thing in the world), night-goggles, and a package of some form of dried meat. For now, she was well-off, and she had managed to kill (a guaranteed) one tribute at the Cornucopia. The other one that she had aimed for...she heard a sickening sound when it hit them, but did not see them fall. She would have to wait until the canons fired and the screen showed up at night to tell if the girl with the reddish hair she hit had died.
