valuable skills: he's quite smart, and is able to come up with plans quickly that will more than likely save his ass in the end. he's also very quiet when he needs to be, a skill that has allowed him to escape from several sticky situations before. in addition, he's very amiable—people tend to like him. his people skills have gotten him pretty far. he's also a very skilled liar. because he's worked in the fields, he's quite strong and has good legs for running and is skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
weaknesses: he's not good with math, or any kind of classroom learning for that matter. he gets his smarts from observant learning. basic skills, reading, writing, etc, but most of his brains are street smarts. he has a soft spot for people in need, and for his friends. he is often conflicted between what's right and what will save someone. his body also can't handle slightly low temperatures. he doesn't particularly like hurting people but sometimes he's aware that it's his job.
family:

• deana, his mother, is a gatherer at the orchards. she works long days, often into the nights, leaving ryder to care for his two younger siblings.
  
• timothy, his father. deceased, killed by peacekeepers for speaking out against the capitol when ryder was 8.
  
• raze, his younger brother. age 10. he is a gatherer at the orchards with their mother, but occasionally tags along with ryder to do whatever it is he decides to do for the day.
  
• elena, his youngest sister, at age 6. she, obviously, doesn't really have a 'career' per se, but she often goes and plays with her friends, whenever she is granted the opportunity to. attends school and is, in general, a six year old.

ryder doesn't have a particularly interesting life, to date. he was born to both of his parents on a hot day in august. he was later graced with a baby brother, and then the two of them were presented with a baby sister. the three siblings are close, and will probably always be close. elena doesn't see as much of ryder as raze does, but their relationship is still strong. raze and ryder share the bond that brothers do, and ryder knows that he would do absolutely anything for raze. he dreads the day that raze has to start entering his own name in the games.

throughout the years, he occasionally helped out in the fields with his mother, or at the house with his father's work. when his father was killed, he was a little too young to understand the implications of what had happened, but he stood with his brother and his then-pregnant mother and vowed to give his new sibling a better life than the one that he was living currently. because she was going to be growing up without a father, so it was up to him and raze to fill in that void.

he creates his own trouble, mostly wherever he goes, he's always causing some sort of problem whether it be with shopkeepers, peacekeepers, anything. the problem is that the peacekeepers already have it out for him because of his father, because his father was charged with rebelling and because of that, he has a target on his head for rebelling. and even though he does have thoughts about it occasionally (or all the time, really), he never acts on them (or never big acts) and therefore he and the peacekeepers have a silent agreement that nobody will be getting hurt that day.
